Click Here for Current Event List Exactly 400 years ago on October 29th 1611, in the Royal Castle in Warsaw, Tsar Vasili IV of Russia and his brothers bowed on their knees, begged for mercy, swore loyality and surrendered the Russian crown to the Polish King Sigismund III Vasa. A special mass was held to celebrate Polish Armed Forces Day on August 14, 2011 in the Polish Church in Silver Spring, Maryland. Polish Armed Forces Day celebrates the Polish army's victory in the Polish-Russian war in 1920. The Polish victory of Russia did not only save Poland, but it also prevented the Russian Soviets from advancing to Germany. The Russian Bolsheviks supported the pro-communist uprisings taking place in Germany. This Polish victory prevented communists from taking over Western Europe. Historians rank this victory among one of the ten most decisive battles in Europe throughout the centuries. The delegation of the Polish Legion of American Veterans and Defense Attache of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland were present.
